In this duo’s title story, twenty-eight-year-old Dave Bradford is halfway to achieving his dreams. He just wants to expand his ranch in Cebolla Basin a little more, so he can marry Sirral Drury. He plans a drive to take four hundred of his stock to Wichita to sell and his cash strapped neighbors throw in another three hundred head. But J.J. Farman, owner of the J-Bar-J, the biggest ranch in the Basin, warns Bradford not to take the cattle across Texas Flat where Farman runs his cattle, even though it is open range. Bradford knows if he caves to Farman and his hired gunmen, Farman will not only control Texas Flat, but all the ranchers in the Basin. The question is: can he make it across the Flat without being caught, and what will he do if the drive is stopped?
